The process with having an implant placed has really has gotten pretty streamlined. It's pretty straightforward. There's not a lot of recovery with it. Not a lot of discomfort afterwards. The procedure for a dental implant, a lot of times, depending on the visit, usually, you know, anywhere from about 30 minutes to an hour and a half. The recovery period, usually pretty easy. If we're just placing a dental implant, then minimal recovery time. If it's a little more involved, where we've taken a tooth out, or we have to do some grafting with it, there's a little bit more soreness, but generally, very tolerable with some pain medicine. And you know, the worst of that is usually one or two days.
The healing periods can vary. Most of the time we allow the implants to heal in the bone, or what we call osseointegrate where the bone will actually kind of grow into the implants. And that can take a few months before they're ready to have a lot of force or load put on such as chewing. So there is some healing time before patients usually get a tooth put on it.
So the benefit of dental implants allows us to replace a missing tooth, missing teeth, and we avoid doing anything to the adjacent teeth. Traditionally, teeth would be replaced with a bridge. The implants help maintain the bone and tissue in that area. For patients who are missing all their teeth, we've been able to place implants that allow us to actually affix something on to them that will replace the entire arch of teeth, and give them a brand new smile and outlook on life. So it's been really exciting and rewarding with it.
