Technology is changing our world. And it's happening at an exponential rate. In dentistry especially, we're seeing all kinds of changes. And a lot of that's been coming about even in the past 10 years. Both of my offices have CT machines in them, what we call cone beams, which provide a 3D image of the patient's jaw, uses very little radiation. And it really allows us to see a lot of detail where nerves may be that we want to avoid, where the sinuses are. It can give us great detail about the teeth. And it really helps us with planning certain types of surgeries, even wisdom teeth, or dental implants.
And the software that's out there now with some of the companies they provide, they can actually take our CT scan, load it into their software program, and we can plan the entire implant surgery from one implant to 10. And we can then use that information, they can create guides, they can even create some of the temporary crowns and teeth that would go on them.
And the day the patient comes into the surgery, we have a very precise way of placing the implant, minimizing kind of trauma to the area. It can make it potentially more comfortable for the patient afterwards with post-op. And it can allow us to place maybe teeth on the implants the day of the surgery. They can leave with a brand new set of teeth that's already created before the surgery was ever done. It's pretty amazing what can be done now.
